Solar Systems on School Buildings

In the Solar Our Schools Program, a series of 1.5 hour-long sessions centered on solar energy and energy conservation are taught to students and the community. Our objective is to provide an overview of the solar installation process from concept to working system. Whether a person is interested in working with their hands, learning about solar in general, or exploring engineering and mechanical issues, we hope that this experience will be fun, informative and the first step in building a greener future in your schools and in your community.

Helping your Community Go Solar

We are offering our California’s Public and Private School systems and local City Governments a program to encourage and implement energy conservation and renewable energy with education.  By involving the students, teachers, parents and communities to raise local awareness and action towards energy independence, the future seems a bit more real.  That's why we created the Solar Our Schools (SOS) Program, an initiative that provides schools and cities with the guidelines, tools and expertise to enhance education and build stronger communities.

Education - With the SOS Program, we will work with each SOS Team/ Committee to develop or integrate energy conservation and renewable energy into existing or new curriculum.  Existing solar school programs may be incorporated into the SOS Program.  The SOS Program is fully scalable and once developed, becomes your program.

Cost Reduction – Under the SOS Program, we work with organizations, such as “Sustainable San Mateo County” and local Energy Consultants, to offer ways to save on your current energy usage – thus reducing the required size of a solar electric system.  We also demonstrate how a solar electric system will greatly reduce your energy bill and protect against future rate increases.  Install a solar system and save 5% or more.

Raise Money - With the SOS Program, your community is able to raise thousands of dollars each year to expand an existing solar system or provide funding for other local or school projects.  By providing a Program Purchase Plan for your community, homes and businesses will get a custom designed solar electric generation system at a great price, while a school or library receives a donation for each system installed.  BP Solar and The Home Depot along with Owens Electric & Solar are making a $1,000 donation on the owner’s behalf for each system installed regardless of size.  Another $200 per system installed will go towards the SOS Scholarship Fund for each school.

It’s Your World Too – Taking responsibility for our small part in this big world is a huge element of the SOS Program.  Each little or big step we take toward energy independence is one step closer to a brighter future.  We want to empower the students and those in your community to further their interest and education in providing a better tomorrow.
